I can't believe I overlooked this book- or maybe I saw it and blew it off (just being honest). I'm SO happy I read it! It's the perfect blend of humor, wisdom and deviousness. The best thing about this book is, I can relate to so many of the stories. It took me back to my childhood. I grew up with Madeas. My great-great grandmother was my Madea (we actually called her "Madea"). She was just as hilarious as Mabel Simmons. She would have liked her. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh or words of encouragement. This book provides both. Great read! Still can't believe it took eleven years to discover this gem.
I have been searching high & low, to be able to purchase the book, AND the accompanying CD set, almost since the day this came out. Not easily found! I was looking forward to reading along & listening to Tyler Perry, ahem, I mean, Madea, add LOTS of laughter to this! Sadly, I only "chuckled" a couple of times,.....literally! Very disappointed, that this was NOWHERE NEAR as funny, as his TV shows, movies, & stage plays,....or that I thought it would be!
Tyler Perry has impressed us once again with him great take on the well known, loud-mouth black women, Madea. This time it is not a movie, or a musical, its a book. A book about the ways of living life through the eyes of Madea. It includes countless hours non stop laugh out loud enjoyment. I am a musical theatre artist (actor, singer and dancer) so i can appreciate a good character when i see one. Even if your not interested in reading, trust me, you won't want to put the book down! I give it five stars, well thought out and hilarious. And hey, you'll never know, maybe you could actually learn a thing or two from Madea, it is filled with amazing tips for the real world and life. I was laughing the entire time I was reading this! I love Madea! What else can I say? You cannot help but read this in Madea's voice and think of her mannerisms. It does have some excellent advice in there. One of my favorite books and I have over 1000 books.
Too funny!!! was on my way to work every morning reading this book and people must have thought I was loosing it, because I was laughing on the bus reading this book, very enjoyable and good reading, many can relate to some of the things written in this book, would recommend reading this book Tyler needs to write another book, he is soooo good at movies and plays and if he had more time, would do great at writing also. Let's all give Tyler a shout-out for all the work he does
I am already a big fan of Madea from watching her plays. When I found out she had a book I decided to find it on CD. Since I commute about 1 hour to work everyday I needed something to keep me entertained when music wouldn't suffice. Although there are parts of the book that aren't very substantial, Madea's reading of the book will keep you laughing all the way through. I especially liked the parts regarding "Vaseline" and "throwing your frisbee". The strange thing is, amongst all of the comical content, Madea does offer some sound common-sense, home-spun advice. And if you're a big fan of Madea I suggest you buy the plays on DVD. The movies contain less of Madea's personality, but the plays are crazy-funny and the music they contain is quite good. Made never lets you down.
I ordered this book for my sister who also happens to be my roommate. She is quite possibly (in her mind anyway) one of the biggest Tyler Perry fans around (many may disagree). Coming from the south we had in our family our very own Madea who left us in 1998. She and Tyler Perry's Madea are extremely similiar...and very entertaining as well. As I said, I bought this book for my sister who had mentioned she wanted it. However I read it before I gave it to her. Everything Madea said I either agreed with or at least understood and respected her opinion on. This book is worth the price (just like Tyler's plays and movies) and is not only for people of color but can be appreciated and enjoyed by all.
I bought this booking because I love Tyler Perry and the Madea character. I think sometimes she is my hero. I was looking for her sharp wit and humour and to laugh all the way through the book. Although this book is definately thought provoking and I love her opinions on how to raise children and find a man. She is right on the money whether you like it or not. The problem is I thought this was going to be a funny laugh all the way through book and it really isn't. I like it and it's ok but I think Tyler can do soooo much better than this. I certainly hope he writes another one but puts more of her sass and lots of laughter it it.
